Beyond the Bargain Bin
Authors often lament finding their books for sale online for cut-rate prices, sometimes immediately after release. That’s part of the game, I guess, and it’s certainly been true for my books. But I’m even more shocked and amazed when I find my books for sale ABOVE cover price. Take this person, who has been hawking one of my old books on eBay for $500.
Yep, you heard me. Five hundred smackeroos for a book I wrote 13 years ago. It’s not even autographed (not that my signature would make it worth half a grand)! Ironically, the seller’s online store is called “A Wise Decision,” but since the book is still available on Amazon.com for only $45, “wise” isn’t the word that comes to mind.
The listing has been up for over a year with no takers. I check it periodically just out of curiosity. After all, if the guy manages to get $500 for a book that’s still available for 1/10th the price, I have a carton full of ‘em in my garage he could help me unload.
